Volunteers attend a day-long training session at Stinson Morrison Hecker

Even a full-time staff of 10 could never move our casework forward to free these innocent men and women fast enough. We rely heavily on a cadre of volunteers. We have over a dozen committed individuals that spend two to eight hours each week keeping up with all the paperwork our office generates: requesting records, preparing them for scanning, scanning them and organizing them.

We have volunteer laypeople and attorneys who review letters from inmates and who review the questionnaires those inmates return to us.

We have law and journalism students from Wrongful Conviction classes at UMKC and MU who are required to move our casework forward as part of their coursework.

And we have teams of summer interns to keep those cases moving when school is not in session.
